Virtual reality life

Are you spending too much time in bed due to depression? Are you suffering from anxiety and feel like you have hardly anything to do? If so, consider playing computer games. Playing games makes your brain more active and helps you focus on something if you are feeling mentally ill.

Games also give you goals to achieve and they can be sociable if you play cooperatively with your friends or acquaintances. Playing together can be uplifting and great fun - enough to bring you out of depression and anxiety.

XBOX

The XBOX is £250 for the Series S or £450 for the Series X. They are similar, but the Series X is more powerful. All games are compatible.

You can pay £12.99 / month for Gamepass. This allows you to play a choice of over 300 games for free, including all of Microsoft’s triple A titles.

PLAYSTATION 5.

PlayStation 5 is similar to XBOX although they have a few more exclusive games. There is a slim model for £389.99. They also have their own virtual reality headset for a further £500.

NINTENDO SWITCH

This is more family oriented, but is still an excellent console. You can pick one up for £250.

METAQUEST 2 OR 3

I own the MetaQuest 3 and they are incredible. You can look around in any direction and it’s like you are in another world. My favourite vr games are Microsoft Flight Simulator and Skyrim Vr. Flight Simulator is so realistic as you can look out of the cockpit at the world below. Sometimes it’s so realistic I have to turn off the game!

When you first turn it on you will be completely amazed. You emerge in another world which is in 360 degrees.

You can move and pan your head around as if in real life, stand up, walk around or sit down while you're in another world. It really is amazing.

Also you can watch 3d videos which are not dissimilar to being in an IMAX cinema.

There are apps which encourage relaxation and breathing exercises such as:

Tripp - meditation in 3d

LiminalVR - Very similar to Tripp. Visual meditation.

Goliath (an interactive 3d experience about living with schizophrenia.)

Playing on the Metaquest has a calming effect, especially when you’re watching, for example, a David Attenborough documentary, or when playing interactive games. You can also play 200 XBOX games in VR if you subscribe to Microsoft Gamepass. You can play any game in what looks like an enormous screen.

Metaquest 2 with 256 gb memory = £250

Enjoy. You no longer have to think about depression..
